Richard D. Morris

Richard D. Morris, age 80 of rural Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Friday March 17, 2017 at the Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born October 24, 1936 near Stronghurst, Illinois, the son of Charles H. and Myrtle Irene Walker Morris. On April 29, 1956, he married Elsie E. Campbell in Rozetta, Illinois.
 Mr Morris was a store manager for HyVee Grocery Stores. He first worked in Burlington, later in Mason City and Altoona, and from 1970 until his retirement in 1987, he managed the Trenton, Missouri store. While in Trenton, he was a member of the Rotary Club, Booster Club, managed the Trenton Junior Olympics, and was active in several community affairs.

Richard also farmed near Gladstone, and was co-owner of the former Hend-Co Hills golf course of Biggsville. He enjoyed geneology, coin collecting, golfing, and was an avid sports enthusiast. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Deana (Dale) Smith of Baldwin City, KS, two sons, Mark (Carol) Morris of Bedford, IA, Steve Morris of Clarinda, IA, eight grandchildren, Raven and Eli Morris, Jennifer McNutt, Elizabeth Smith, Steven and Stephanie Johnson, Adam Smith, Nichole Harris, four great grandchildren, Adriana and Alaina Smith, and Micah and Eloise Harris, four sisters, Marjorie (Wendell) Torrance of West Burlington, IA, Mary (Charles) Martin of Monmouth, IL, Karyl Sears of Charleston, IL, Jan (J.R.) Cargill of Gladstone, IL, and one brother David Morris of Gladstone, IL. He was preceded in death by one daughter- Karen Johnson and one brother, Eugene Morris.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 21, 2017 at Banks & Beals with Rev. Howard Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Biggsville Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Biggsville United Methodist Church and for Alzheimers Research.
