Evelyn M. Cochran, age 81, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 7:55 P.M. on
Monday, April 10, 2017 at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois.
She was born on February 25, 1936 in Oquawka, Illinois, the daughter of George
J. and Anna "Gertrude" (Ortery) Cochran. She was educated in the area and
graduated from G & O High School. Evelyn was very proud that she was the
first person to graduate from G & O with perfect grades. She then attended
Monmouth College, and later, the University of Kansas where she attained her
masters degree in chemistry. She first worked for Mallincrodt Chemical Company
in St. Louis. Evelyn then worked for the University of St. Louis Medical School.
Her career led her to complete many research projects at Barnes Hospital, also
in St. Louis. In her later years, she worked at the Oquawka Christmas Tree Farm,
the Oquawka Hardware Store, and the Oquawka Water Department. Evelyn very much
loved nature; all animals, trees, and flowers. She carved wood, collected rocks,
painted in oils, and was diligent in the care of her Mother. Evelyn is survived
by three brothers; Dale Cochran of Oquawka, IL, Lloyd (Barb) Cochran of
Gladstone, IL, and Gary (Joan) Cochran of Oquawka, IL. Numerous nieces and
nephews are also surviving. She is preceded in death by her parents, two
sisters; Doris Krukow and Mary Johnson, one brother, Paul Cochran, and her
beloved companion of many years, Freckles.
A graveside service is planned for 1:30 P.M. on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the
Oquawka Cemetery. No visitation is planned. For more information, or to leave a
