Harvey W. Templeton

Harvey W. Templeton, 79, of Galesburg, Illinois died with his family at his side at 2:58 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017 at his home.
He was born on October 13, 1937 in Galesburg to Clarence and Mary A. Simpkins Templeton.  He married Nancy Alderson on November 21, 1959 in Galesburg. 
Harvey is survived by his wife, Nancy of Galesburg; two daughters, Kelly (and Steve) Cheesman of Galesburg and Kendra (and Bob) Dochterman of California; two sisters, Caroline Adolphson and Bonnie (and Larry) Reid both of Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Templeton; a brother-in-law, Ray Jacobs; and four grandchildren, Breck and Carson Cheesman and Logan and Olivia Dochterman.  Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Penny Kay; two brothers, George Templeton and Clarence Templeton; and three sisters, Christine Luper, Mary Jane Bell and Margo Jacobs.
Harvey was a Store Clerk for the C.B. & Q., Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroads for 40 years, retiring in 1997.  As a teenager, he worked with his father at Templeton Roofing.
He was a 1956 graduate of Galesburg High School.  He was a member of Central Congregational Church where he served as head usher, deacon and a Sunday school teacher.  He was a supporter of the Galesburg Railroad Museum and American Legion Baseball.  He was an IHSA basketball, football and baseball official.  He enjoyed gardening.  He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Harvey never met a stranger.
  
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Central Congregational Church.  Rev. James Ecklund and Rev. Sterrett Collins will officiate.  Burial will be in the East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.  Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus or the University of Iowa Hospital Heart and Vascular Center.  Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com
