JoAnn Nelson, 86, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 6:00 a.m.,
Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her home.
She was born on January 12, 1931 in Lenox Township, Warren
County, IL, the daughter of Algie Thomas and Margaret Ellen (Bader)
Shawler. JoAnn was raised and educated
in Warren County, IL.
JoAnn married Gerald Rutledge in Monmouth; she later married
John P. Nelson on May 4, 1969 in Monmouth, he preceded her in death on May 2,
2016.
JoAnn owned and operated the Country Kitchen in Monmouth for
several years. She most recently
volunteered for over 25 years at Strom Center in Monmouth, where she helped manage
the thrift store. JoAnn enjoyed crafts,
playing cards, fishing, and visiting with her family and friends.
Surviving JoAnn are twelve
children, Jane Nelson of Waterloo, IA, Margaret (Mike) Chavez of Weslaco, TX,
Jim (Dee) Nelson of Silvis, IL, John (Susie) Nelson of Bettendorf, IA, Bill
(Allene) Nelson of Martinburg, WV, Mary (Michel) Johnson of Enid, OK, Barb
Chenault of Monmouth, IL, Sherry (Gary) Lee of Monmouth, IL, Steve (Linda)
Rutledge of Woodburry, GA, Joyce (Tom Atkins) Talbott of Phoenix City, AL, Lisa
Hull of Monmouth, IL and Christine (Jarvis) Melton of Boone, IA; thirty five
grandchildren, forty three great grandchildren, and three great great grandchild. Also surviving are her siblings; Virginia
Yoder of Monmouth, Mary Hastings of Monmouth, Donna Stokes of Monmouth, Tom
(Bea) Shawler of Colorado, Diane (Ken) Kittleson of Minnesota, and Donny
(Sharon) Shawler of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband, two sisters, Betty and Dolores, one brother; Bobby, and one
son, Paul Rutledge.
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 25,
2017 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Visitation will be one hour prior to the
service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial
