Leonard L. and Carolyn S. Anderson

Leonard L. and Carolyn S. Anderson, both of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 7:51 P.M. in Galesburg, Illinois as a result of an automobile accident. Leonard was born on February 1, 1946 in Gladstone, Illinois, the son of Richard O. and Esther M. (Larson) Anderson. Carolyn was born on August 12, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of James R. and Evelyn M. (Buxton) Cisna. They both attended high school at Union High School and Carolyn attended Eureka College where she graduated with a BA in education. After school, Leonard proudly served the Country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. On April 14, 1973, Leonard and Carolyn were married at the Gladstone United Methodist Church and began their lifelong adventures together. Leonard enjoyed at thirty-two year career at J.I. Case and Carolyn taught school for the Union Community School District and the combined West Central School District from 1972-2008. She also coached the cheerleaders and sponsored the Jump Rope Team. Leonard loved to hunt, fish, play pool, softball, basketball, work on antique cars and gas pumps, and having breakfast with his buddies. Carolyn enjoyed raising and showing bulldogs, teaching and helping people, her fish pond, diagnosing and fixing computers, sewing, stained glass, and excelled at all craft work. Together, they enjoyed working in their yard, attending flea markets, garage sales, and auctions. They were known for making apple cider each fall. They both loved life, their families, and their many friends. Left to cherish their memory is one son, Ryan Wayne (Gretchen Schwartz) Anderson of Washington, IL, Carolyn's siblings, Roger (Marcella) Cisna of Oquawka, IL, and Barry Cisna of Gladstone, IL, her niece, Brenda (Tory) Mills, her nephew, Shawn (Lisa) Cisna, Leonard's siblings, Lois (Allen) Tee of Oquawka, IL and Eugene (Jean) Anderson of Burlington, IA, and six nieces and nephews; David Tee, Darren Tee, Nancy Anderson, Eric Anderson, Diane Stamper, and Daryl Davis. They are both preceded in death by their parents, Leonard's two sisters; Marilyn Davis and Caroline "Johnny" Harris, and one brother, Wayne Anderson.
Per their wishes, cremation is being accorded. A memorial service is planned for 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Their family plans to receive friends at a visitation from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be at the Oquawka Cemetery. Memorial funds are being established for the Henderson County Humane Society, the Leonard and Carolyn Anderson Educational Fund at West Central High School, or the Henderson County Historical Society.
