Robert M. Lindsay, Sr., 89, of Galesburg, went to be
with his Heavenly Father at 8:40 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at
home, after a brief illness.
He was born August 22,
1927 in Bicknell, Indiana, the son of James M. and Elizabeth (Hunter)
Lindsay. He married Steffanie Kinasewich June 13, 1947 in Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada.
He is survived by his of
wife of nearly 70 years, Steffanie; a son, Robert (and Donna) Lindsay
of Galesburg; a daughter, Laura Lindsay of Galesburg; two
grandchildren, Jim (and Jodi) Lindsay and Adam Winbigler; and a great
granddaughter, Brooklyn Lindsay. He was preceded in death by his
parents and three brothers, James Lindsay, William Lindsay, and John
Lindsay.
Bob was in the automobile
business in Rock Island for several years before opening Lindsay Auto
Centre in Galesburg in 1974. He retired in 1998. He graduated from
Bicknell High School in Bicknell, Indiana in 1945. He served his
country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He
was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Galesburg and Soangetaha
Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. He was a member of
Illinois Dealers Life Insurance Board, Illinois Automobile Dealers
Association, and National Automobile Dealers Association. Bob was a
Mason. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Funeral
service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Shawn Smith will
officiate. Private family burial with military honors will be in the
Rock Island National Cemetery on Arsenal Island. Visitation will be
5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to First
Presbyterian Church or the Soangetaha Memorial Tree Planting Program.
