Douglas J. Wickwire, 87,
of Galesburg, died at 4 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Rosewood Care
Center.
Doug was born January 29,
1930 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of James and Milla
(Lockerman) Wickwire. He was raised in Minnesota and moved to
Galesburg in 1947.
He is survived by a
sister, Inez (and Jim) Bevard, both of Galesburg; a brother, Bill
(and Lois) Wickwire of Pinckneyville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Milla Wickwire;
step mother, Doris Wickwire; brother, Jack Wickwire; and sister,
Berdella Smith.
Doug worked most of his
life doing construction work and also assisted a family member in
well drilling. He was of Lutheran faith.
He served in the United
States Navy from 1950 to 1954. He was a member of the Brimfield
American Legion.
Cremation will be
accorded. There will be no visitation or service at this time. His
remains will be buried with his family in Southport Cemetery, near
Oak Hill. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation
Services of Galesburg is handling arrangements for the family.
