Edith E. Nelson, 88, of
Chatham, Illinois, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois died at 11:37 a.m.
Thursday, May 4, 2017 in Springfield, Illinois.
She
was born on October 15, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts to Harvey G.
and Ellen J. Nilsson Almborg. She married Rev. Harold E. Nelson in
Chicago, Illinois on November 15, 1952. He survives.
Edith
is also survived by daughters, Kathy (Van) Hankins of Waverly,
Illinois, Linda (Gary) Galecki of Springfield, Illinois, and Jennifer
(Ken) Johnston of Indianapolis, Indiana; nephew, John Bulger (who was
like a son) of Leominster, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Edith
worked in various administrative positions, mostly medical and
educational, during her lifetime. She retired in 1986 from a
dermatologist’s practice in Galesburg.
She
was a graduate of Roslindale (MA) High School and attended North Park
College. She was a member of the Covenant Church in Galesburg, where
she was a member of the Mary-Martha Circle, the Archives Committee,
and the Member Share and Care Committee. She enjoyed sewing, cooking
and gardening, and loved following the Chicago Cubs.
Funeral
services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Covenant Church
with Rev. James Ecklund officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11
a.m. Tuesday at the Church. Burial will be in the East Linwood
Cemetery in Galesburg. Memorials
