Helen P. Melton, age 91, of Little York, Illinois, passed away at 6:55 P.M.
on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth,
Illinois. She was born on May 7, 1926 in New Boston, Illinois, the daughter of
Alonzo and Nora (Briggs) Pomeroy. Helen attended and graduated from New Boston
High School. On June 12, 1948, she married Herbert "Dutch" Melton in Monmouth,
Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1997. Helen worked at the
Yorkwood CUSD #225 as a bus driver, then she was a rural letter carrier at the
U.S. Postal Service, and later returned to Yorkwood and was a cafeteria worker.
She was a homemaker. Helen was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W.
and the American Legion Auxiliary. Helen is survived by three daughters; Linda
(Roger) Fullerton of Orleans, IN, Lois (Larry) Royer of Swannanoa, NC, and Donna
(Gene) Wade of Little York, IL, four sons; Willard "Tad" (Vicki) Pomeroy of New
Boston, IL, Robert "Bob" (Joyce) Melton of Kirkwood, IL, John "Jack" Melton of
Monmouth, IL, and Jay (Amanda) Melton of Oak Run, IL, one sister, Doris
(Clayton) Saunders of Sun City, AZ, one brother, Charles "Chink" (Arlene)
Clawson of New Boston, IL, one sister-in-law, Sarah Burns of Monmouth, IL. There
are sixteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and two
great-great-grandchildren surviving. She is preceded in death by her parents,
her husband "Dutch", two brothers, and twin daughters; Carol and Cheryl.
A funeral service is planned for 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at
Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family will receive friends
from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment
will be at Warren County Memorial Park. A memorial is being established for
