She
was born January 18, 1923 in Saluda, Illinois, the daughter of Edward
and Gladys Marie Whipple Benson. She married Alden Davis on August 22,
1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1987. She
was also preceded in death by her parents.
Pat is survived by a half-sister, Carol Messer of Yelm, Washington; her
brother-in-law and his wife, Jim and Roberta Davis of Abingdon; cousins
and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Pat grew up in Saluda, which was a small town located between Abingdon
and Galesburg on the Lake Bracken road. She graduated from Galesburg
High School in 1940. She worked as an assembler at the former Gale
Products in Galesburg. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian
Church. Pat and her husband started the Abingdon Food Pantry in a small
downtown building owned by Tony Ippolito and later worked out of their
home on South Main Street in Abingdon. She was dedicated in helping
those in need. She was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and an animal lover.
Cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life, a memorial service
will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Abingdon
Christian Church. Rev. Darryl McDaniel will officiate. A time of food
and fellowship will follow the service at the church. Burial of her
ashes in the Abingdon Cemetery will be private. Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
