Lawrence D. “Larry” Carlson

Lawrence D. “Larry” Carlson, 74, of Galesburg, died at 7:10 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
Larry was born December 7, 1942 in Galesburg, the son of Bertis and Mary Reynolds Carlson. He married Madelaine Eby on November 29, 1969. They had one son Bryan (Rose Lee) Carlson who survives of New York City, NY; as do three grandchildren, Grant, Hana, and Dean. Larry is also survived by sisters, Mary Jo Young of Galesburg and Pamela (Gerald) Kimball of Sparland; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rodney Carlson.
Larry served in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from September 8, 1960 until he was honorably discharged from service on November 29, 1963. He lived in Canada from 1981 to 1994. Larry spent many years working as a welding sales representative, as well as working for the railroad. Most of his career was spent in fiberglass manufacturing and boat repair, the last several years owning and operating Viking Marine in Galesburg. Larry enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. He was also an avid chess player.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services are planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
