Marjorie F. “Marge”
Cole, 92, and William D. “Bill” Cole, 95, of Galesburg, formerly
of Williamsfield, both died at Rosewood Care Center, Marge on June 3,
2016 and Bill on May 1, 2017.
Marge was born April 18,
1924, in Berwick, the daughter of David E. and Ethel M. (Ray)
Stanforth. Bill was born April 25, 1922, in Abingdon, the son of Rex
N. and Hazel M. (Smith) Cole. Marge and Bill were married February
14, 1942, in Palmyra, Missouri. They enjoyed 74 years of devoted
marriage until Marge’s death.
Together, they are
survived by their children, John Cole of Williamsfield and Karen (and
Frederick “Ted”) Anderson of Farmington; five grandchildren;
three step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; six step-great
grandchildren; and one step-great-great granddaughter. Marge is also
survived by two brothers, Willard “Bill” (and Maylou) Stanforth
of Platte, South Dakota and Donald “Whitey” Stanforth of
Westminster, California. Bill is also survived by a brother, Edward
(and Teresa) Cole of Waltonville, Illinois. Marge was preceded in
death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister. In addition to
Marge, Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother,
Robert Cole.
They were both raised in
the Abingdon area. Marge graduated from Abingdon High School in 1942
and Bill graduated from Avon High School in 1939. Marge and Bill
worked alongside each other on the family farm in the Williamsfield
area from 1951 until moving into Galesburg in 2005.
Cremation has been
accorded. Graveside memorial service for both Marge and Bill will be
2 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jim
Ecklund will officiate. There will be no visitation. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the
