Neal E. Horton, 99, of
Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:45 am Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Seminary
Manor.
He was born October 1,
1917 in Bardolph, Illinois the son of Clarence C. and Thressie E.
Radenbaugh Horton. He married Erma Maxine Simpson on May 16, 1936 in
Galesburg. She preceded him in death on October 26, 1985.
Neal is survived by two
sons, Rodney E. (Marilyn) Horton and Robert E. (Carol) Horton both of
Galesburg; seven grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren and
eighteen great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his
parents, his wife, his son, Roger; three brothers, Ernest, Delbert
and Stanley and three sisters, Winona, Margaret and Lois.
Neal served in the US Army
for two years, stationed in Texas, California, France and Belgium as
a Private First Class.
He worked for Coca-Cola as
a salesman for 23 years. He then worked for Gale Ward for over 20
years and later worked for Dick Blick at Sign Press for over 20
years. He retired at the age of 84 in 2001. He graduated from
Galesburg High School. Neal was a life member for the Ralph M. Noble
American Legion Post #285. He was a member of the East Main
Congregational United Church of Christ. He enjoyed pitching softball,
bowling and golfing. He ran track while in high school where he set
several records.
Graveside services are
scheduled for 11:00 am Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. James
Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 am Friday
at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to
