Melva M. Johns,
89, a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon and formerly of Avon,
passed away at 12:57 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Care
Center of Abingdon.
She was born
June 2, 1927 in Table Grove, the daughter of Keith L. and Gladys
Gossage Brown. She married Gerald H. Johns on March 15, 1946 at the
Fulton County Courthouse in Lewistown. He preceded her in death on
June 11, 1979. She she was also preceded in death by her brothers,
George Brown, Howard Brown, and Max Brown and brother-in-law, Harold
Kruzan.
Melva is
survived by three sons, Gary Verne (Kathy) Johns of Knox, Indiana,
Terry W. (Nancy) Johns of Avon and Steven (Titiana) Johns of Newport,
Michigan; two daughters, Linda R. Johns of Antigo, Wisconsin and
Vickie Johns of Davenport, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 23
great-grandchildren; three brothers, Keith (Shirley) Brown of Hermon,
Carl (Pat) Brown of Hermon and Ivan (Nancy) Brown of Bernadotte; one
sister, Dorla Kruzan of Bryant.
She grew up in
Canton. She had lived in Avon for over 50 years. She was a
homemaker. She worked as a caregiver at the Avon Nursing Home for 12
years and at Bethpage for 7 years.
As per her
wishes, cremation was accorded.
To
celebrate her life, family and friends will gather from noon to 4
p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Abingdon
American Legion.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is
assisting the family with arrangements.
