Wanda L. Makeever, 88, of
Galesburg, died at 12:04 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Galesburg
Cottage Hospital.
She was born November 19,
1928 in Orange City, Iowa, the daughter of Rev. Llewellyn F. and
Marjorie Faye (Tye) Jones. She married Donald M. Makeever on
November 19, 1949 in Marseilles, Illinois. He preceded her in death
on August 21, 1999.
She is survived by five
children, Susan (Dennis) Lithander of Lansing, Michigan, Don Makeever
of Galesburg, David (Lisa) Makeever of Galesburg, Dan Makeever of El
Paso, Texas, and Mark (Kim) Makeever of Weatherford, Texas; eight
grandchildren; nine great grandchildren with two on the way; three
brothers, Charles (Vera) Jones, Lou (Toni) Jones, and Rev. Bob
(Bobbi) Jones; a sister, Betty Jones; and special neighbors and
friends, Rev. Leigh Nygard, Bill and Willa Jewsbury, and Mark and
Jeanette Shipp and their children, Jacob, Jarod, and Maria. In
addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and
a sister, Ruth Jones.
She graduated from DePue
High School in 1946 and St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.
She worked as a registered nurse for Galesburg Cottage Hospital for
over 26 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the PEO Chapter
AN and the Clio Study Club. She volunteered for the Cottage Hospital
Guild. Wanda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the
church choir. She also sang for the Community Chorus and enjoyed
attending the Knox Galesburg Symphony. Wanda was a basketball fan,
who enjoyed attending high school and Big 10 games and watching them
on TV.
Funeral will be 10 a.m.
Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
Rev. Leigh Nygard will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or
