Michael
D. Smith, 67, of Galesburg, passed away at home on June 17, 2017.
Mike
was born January 18, 1950 in Peoria, the son of Harry D. and
Catherine R. Campbell Smith. He is survived by his wife, Linda
(Baughman/Dunn); his children, Shawn Smith of Denver, CO, Joshua
(Jamie) Welsh of Altona, Nicholas Smith of Edwardsville; Kellie (Joe)
Harshbarger of Bartonville, Michelle (Jerry) Cook of Galesburg; and
Kimberly Smith of Edwardsville; and 10 grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, a brother David Smith and a son,
James Gallagher.
Mike
was raised in Peoria and graduated from Woodruff High School. He
worked for 30 years at Caterpiller, Inc. retiring in 1997. Mike was
a handyman and could fix anything - a “Jack of all trades.”
Mike was a social person, who had many friends and loved a good
conversation and a cold Miller Lite beer. He enjoyed traveling with
Linda, especially Florida. He loved to go fishing, was an avid
Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and was a lover of dogs, with Labradors
being his favorite. Mike was also a Mason.
Visitation
will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Watson-Thomas
Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Cremation rites will be
performed following the visitation. No funeral service is planned.
