David “Dave” Eugene Dickerson, 73
of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon passed away at 12:40 p.m.
Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in
Peoria.
He was born November 29, 1943, in
Galesburg, the son of Archie (Cody) and Gertrude Morse Dickerson.
He married Donna E. DeJaynes on May 29, 1965, in Abingdon. She
preceded him in death on June 27, 2008. They were happily married for
43 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one
infant daughter, Sandra Jean Dickerson, three brothers, twins John
and James Dickerson, and Donald Dickerson, two sisters, Helen Letcho
and Marie Palmer, his in-laws, William “Ted” and Patricia
DeJaynes, his sisters-in-law, Debbie DeJaynes and Sandy Colwell and
her husband LeRoy and an infant niece, Tedra
Lynn Cottom.
Dave is survived by two sons,
David L. (Terri) Dickerson of Abingdon, and Ronnie (Victoria)
Dickerson of Peoria; one daughter, Sherry (Chris) McIntyre of
Galesburg; four grandchildren, Cody McIntyre, Taylor Dickerson.
Bailey Dickerson and Kaylynn McIntyre; one brother, Robert Dickerson
of Salem, Oregon; one brother-in-law, Snook
(Donna) DeJaynes of Abingdon; one sister-in-law, Kathy (Daryl)
Alderman of East Peoria; and several nephews and two special nieces,
Sis McDorman and Heidi Drain and their families. He also
enjoyed the company of his two dogs, Bunny and Cookie.
He attended Abingdon schools.
He was a Navy Veteran. He had lived in Galesburg since 2002 and
prior to that, he had lived in Abingdon most of his life. He
worked at Admiral/Maytag in Galesburg for over 35 years retiring in
2004. He also did several home remodeling projects for his
family members and friends. He was a former member of First
Assembly of God Church in Abingdon. He enjoyed fishing trips to
Wisconsin with the DeJaynes clan and spending time with his family
and friends. Although his family and friends will desperately miss
his smile and outgoing nature, they cannot help but be happy that he
is now rejoining the love of his life Donna in heaven.
Funeral service
will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 at the
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Victor Randle, Jr. will
officiate. Burial in the Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by
Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 will follow the service.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
