She was born March 14, 1931 at Norris Farms near Lewistown, the
daughter of Marvin and Alta Odessa Woods Althiser. She married Harold
Stegens on May 21, 1951 in Lewistown. He preceded her in death on
February 4, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one
son, David Stegens and his wife Janice Stegens, her son-in-law, Harry
“Joe” Blake, her daughter-in-law, Mae Stegens, one brother, Marvin
Mardil Althiser, two sisters, Betty West and Elizabeth Chambers, and one
great-grandson, Christopher Small.
Evelyn is survived by one daughter, Susan Blake of London Mills; three
sons, Garry (Barb DeJaynes) Stegens of Abingdon, George Stegens of Texas
and Veda (Laura) Stegens of Hanna City; 13 grandchildren and 28
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy Scanavino and Charlotte
Helton both of Ottawa.
She had lived in the Bryant and London Mills areas all her life. She
worked in housekeeping at the Bel-Wood Nursing Home in Peoria for 49
years retiring in 1996. She was of the Christian faith. She was a
member of the London Mills Women’s Auxiliary.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017 at the
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Chaplain Marijane Thomas will
officiate. Burial will be in East Midway Cemetery near London Mills.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the
chapel.
