Alvin P. Johnson Jr., 84,
of Wataga, died at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at home.
He was born October 31,
1932, in Galesburg, the son of Alvin P. and Florence J. Johnson Sr.
He married Marjorie A. “Marge” Jacobs on February 22, 1964, in
Galesburg. She preceded him in death May 1, 2016.
He is survived by four
children, David (and Vicki) Jacobs of Rio, Christine (and John)
Hoosen of Wataga, John (and Laurie) Jacobs of Kalamazoo, Michigan,
and Linnea (and Bill) Ryan of Libertyville; eight grandchildren; and
one great grandson. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in
death by his parents and a sister, Lorraine Holcomb on June 27, 2017.
Alvin was a grain and
livestock farmer his entire life. He was an Illinois State Trooper
for 33 years, retiring as a pilot in 1991 with the rank of Sergeant
in Air Operations.
He was an active member of
Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove. He enjoyed golfing, was
a Mason, and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He was devoted to
his family.
He served in the United
States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble
American Legion Post 285. He took the Honor Flight on October 14,
2013.
Visitation will be 5 to 7
p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg
Chapel. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel with Rev. Kurt
Carlsen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial
Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran
