Forrest D. Pickrel, 81, of
Galesburg, Illinois died at 6:25 am Saturday, August 12, 2017.
He was born January 24,
1936 in Gilson, Illinois the son of Reece A. and Eileen Connor
Pickrel. He married the love of his life, Joyce Elaine Pascoe on
February 6, 1959 in Galesburg.
Forrest is survived by his
wife of 58 years, Joyce; his two sons, Allen (Julie) Pickrel and
David (Annette) Pickrel both of Galesburg; his brother, Raymond
(Dorothy) Pickrel of Galesburg; his granddaughter and pride and joy,
Megan (Chase) Roof; special brother and sisters-in-laws and several
nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three
brothers and four sisters.
Forrest began working as a
baker and a foreman for Lucky Boy Bakery. He then worked for May
Company for several years. He went on to work for Dohrn Transfer and
later for School District 205 in maintenance as a painter for over 11
years.
Forrest was very proud of
earning his GED at Galesburg High school in 1980. He had coached
little league and Babe Ruth baseball. He spent most of his time
following his boys around watching or coaching their sports
activities. He was a Die Hard Cub fan. Forrest enjoyed mowing his
lawn and gardening. He was immaculate with his cars, always keeping
them detailed. Forrie was known as “Grandpa” to many.
Funeral services are
scheduled for 10:00 am Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the First Church
of the Open Bible. Pastor Mark Dexter and Deacon Michael Crummer will
officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, August 16, 2017
at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in East
Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christmas in Action.
