She was
born May 4, 1934 in LaHarpe, IL the daughter of Lewis and Eva Labourne
Link. On October 2, 1951 she married Wayne Hicks in Burlington, IA. He
preceded her in death on November 3, 2008.
Leah Belle
attended LaHarpe High School. She worked for the Iowa Ammunition Plant,
was self-employed to paint and wallpaper, and retired from the
Henderson County Home Health Department. She also volunteered with the
Hospice Program. She loved flowers, hummingbirds, squirrels, and playing
dominoes. Leah loved to take care of other people. She enjoyed spending
time with her family on her front porch.
She is
survived by her children: Mike (Sharon) Hicks, Matt Hicks, Julie Hicks,
and Laura (Steve) Crawford, all of Stronghurst, Tony Hicks and John
(Julie) Hicks of Burlington, Jerry Hicks of Knoxville, IL, and Chris
(Barb) Hicks of Roseville, IL, along with many grandchildren and many
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Wayne
(Louise) Link and Wendell (Eleanor) Link and one sister, Jean Louden,
all of LaHarpe, and three sisters-in-law, Betty Link of Stronghurst,
Janet Hickman of Kalamazoo, MI, and Georgia Cox of LaHarpe.
She was
preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, one son, Jeffrey Hicks, two
brothers, Robert and Donald Link, and three sisters, Louise Boren,
Louella Bowen and Dorothy Kern.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at
Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Pastor Lisa Unger and
Rev. Karna Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Olena
Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home
where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A
memorial fund has been established for the Henderson County Health
