James A. Howe, age 81, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 2:20 P.M. on
Friday, August 4, 2017 at his residence in Monmouth. He was born on April 5,
1936 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Albert Leslie and Gladys Mary (Hook)
Howe. Jim attended schools in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School
with the Class of 1954. On October 17, 1958, Jim married Judy K. Knox at the
First Christian Church in Monmouth and she preceded him in death on December 29,
2015. In 1959 Jim was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He began work
at Norris Office Equipment in Monmouth. Jim, at the same time, worked for
Kistler and Company. He later worked at Lovdahl and Howe Bookkeeping, and later
Howe Bookkeeping. After selling Howe Bookkeeping, he continued full time at
Kistler Company until his retirement. Jim enjoyed golfing, the Chicago White
Sox, and was known for his large knowledge of baseball history and statistics.
He very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and followed their
sports and activities. Jim is survived by two daughters; Janet (Dan) Cheek of
Monmouth, IL and Jill (Chad) Carlson of Monmouth, IL, two sons; Joey (Paula)
Howe of Monmouth, IL, and Jeff (Lara) Howe of Newport News, VA, grandchildren;
Michael Greenlief, Erin Greenlief, Ryan (Abbey) Greenlief, Samantha Cheek, Ryan
(Megan) Cheek, Jordan Cheek, Jeremy (Haylee) Ankle, Jennifer (Brent) Stewart,
and Ryne Howe, twelve great-grandchildren, two sisters; Maradine Harrison of
Tuscon, AZ and Erma (Frank) Kellogg of Monmouth, IL. Numerous nieces and nephews
are also surviving.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at
Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. A visitation is planned from 5:00-7:00 P.M.
on Tuesday evening, August 8, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will be at
Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. A memorial fund is being established
