Reid James Brewer, age 7, of Bushnell,
passed away on Sunday August 6, 2017 in his mother’s arms after a
long battle with cancer, at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois in
Peoria,IL.
Reid was born June 30, 2010 at Graham
Hospital in Canton, IL to James and Katie Brewer. Reid was the
youngest of a large family. Surviving are his older sisters Michelle
(Tony) Utter, Tammie (Jason) Brewer and Brittany (Clint) Wickert,
along with his brothers Gage Bowen and Caleb Brewer. Also surviving
are a number of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and
nephews who all loved him dearly.
From the moment that he was born,
“Reidy Pea” brought joy and sunshine into other’s lives. He had
a magnetic personality that drew others to him. Reid danced his way
through life and made you want to dance right along side him. Reid
was skilled in the finer arts of zombie hunting, Lego creating and
becoming a YouTuber. Reid’s charm captured the hearts of people all
over the world through his Facebook page, Team Reid.
Even throughout his 2 year battle with
cancer, he remained positive, silly and full of high energy, possibly
due to the toasted marshmallow lattes that nurses supplied him with
when in the hospital. Reid was described by many as an old soul in a
young body in regards to his compassionate nature. Always thinking of
others, Reid helped raise funds for causes such as supporting other
local families affected by childhood cancer, St. Jude’s Children’s
Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald Houses, and his biggest
accomplishment of donating 16 X-Box systems, games and controllers to
the upcoming Hematology/Oncology ward at the Children’s Hospital of
Illinois.
There will be a visitation on Thursday,
August 10 from 4-7pm at the BPC High School at 845 Walnut St,
Bushnell, IL. A Celebration service will be held on Friday, August 11
at 11am also at BPC High School. In true Reid style, the family
requests everyone to wear their favorite Team Reid shirt, superhero
shirt or a red t-shirt, displaying Reid’s favorite color. Following
the services, burial will be in the Bushnell Cemetery, followed by a
meal at the CC Center at 355 W. Main St. Martin Hollis Funeral Home
will be in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be
made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
