Jack L. Brodine

Jack L. Brodine, age 96, of Knoxville, died at  3:33 A.M., Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by his children, Kim and Jerry. 
He was born on February 26, 1919 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Ernest and Pauline Johnson Brodine.  He grew up in “Monkeytown” neighborhood, a Swedish section of Galesburg.
Jack graduated in 1937 from Galesburg High School.
He married Rachel Clayburg in January, 1943.  She preceded him in death in 2000.
Jack is survived by his children, Jerry (Karen) Brodine of Galesburg, Illinois and Kim Reynolds, Kewanee, Illinois; four grandchildren:  Katie and Jack Reynolds of Kewanee, Illinois, Doug (Lisa) Brodine and Austin of Laura, Illinois and Dan (Shelly) Brodine of Elmwood, Illinois.  One brother survives, Bob Brodine of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
He was   preceded in death by his wife, son, Larry of Dunlap, parents and one brother and two sisters-in-law, Wayne (Jean) Brodine and Mary Ann Brodine. 
Jack was a wholesale grocery salesman with WA Jordan, then Brown Specialty Co.  His sales routes covered most of central Illinois.
Jack served in WW II, from November 1942 – February 1946 with the Army Air Corps in 482nd Bombardment Squadron on Tiurain and Tinnian.  He serviced the Enola Gay on her return flight.
Jack was proud to be included in the 2014 Greater Peoria Honor Flight to Washington D.C.  His son, Jerry accompanied him on this trip.
A visitation will be held 9:30 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, Knoxville, Illinois.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Michel Clark will officiate.  Memorials may be made to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.  Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville, Illinois is assisting the family.  On-line condolences and sympathy cards may be sent through www.hurdhendricksfuneralhome.com.
