James “Jim” Loren Miller

James “Jim” Loren Miller, 91, of Galesburg, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, April 5, 2015 in Seminary Manor.

He was born January 27, 1924 in Rend City, Illinois the son of Roy Herbert and Sarah (Treasure) Miller.  He married Merle Bowman on June 26, 1960 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Merle; a sister, Alice Miller of London Mills, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Hilda Miller of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Thelma Surroz; and two brothers, Leland and Harold Miller.

Jim graduated from London Mills High School in 1942.  He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945.  He was stationed in New Guinea and southern Philippines at the time of the liberation.

Jim worked at Midland Electric Coal, Peabody Coal Company, and ASARCO, retiring in 1985.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the V.F.W.  Jim was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Cambridge Masonic Lodge #49 and Thor Lodge #9 of Moline.


Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.  Masonic services will be offered at 1:15 p.m. by Cambridge Masonic Lodge #49, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
