Leonard D. Alexander, 84, of
Galesburg, died at 7 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 in Heartland Health Care
Center.
He was born November 10, 1930
in West Jersey Township in Stark County, Illinois, the son of William E. and
Ella (Seivers) Alexander. He married
Janet Lawson on August 2, 1958 in Galesburg.
She preceded him in death on September 30, 2005.
He is survived by a son,
Michael Alexander of Bartonville, Illinois; a daughter, Julie Alexander (and
her close friend, Susan Barron) of Springfield, Illinois; a sister, Lois
Loizano of Santa Maria, California; and his beloved pet, Angie. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in
death by his parents; two brothers, Frank and Kenneth Alexander; and two
sisters, Lydia Olin and Clara Williams.
Leonard worked at the former
Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation in Galesburg for over 31
years before retiring in 1984. He lived
in the Alpha and Woodhull areas until moving to Galesburg in 1953. He attended the Covenant Church.
Leonard served in the United
States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. He was awarded four Bronze Stars. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American
Legion Post 285.
Visitation will be 10 to 11
a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with
Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating. Burial
will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, where military honors will be
provided. Memorial contributions may be
