Ted G. Schooley

Teddy Grant Schooley, 81, of Galesburg, died at 1:12 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
 
Ted was born in Richland, Iowa, March 23, 1934, son of Nelson O. and Isabel Grant Schooley.
 
He attended school in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa, Iowa.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on April 29, 1952, stationed in Puerto Rico and was honorably discharged on April 28, 1956
 
He married Joan Wood on June 20, 1959 at Willard St. Methodist Church in Ottumwa, IA.
 
He worked for Ottumwa Tent and Awning and joined the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, in Ottumwa, Iowa as a Brakeman/Conductor on August 8, 1956.
 
He retired on February 1, 1998, from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad,  in Galesburg, Illinois.
 
Ted and Joan were transferred to Galesburg, Illinois, in 1985, with the Railroad. They spent many years traveling and camping in their motorhome..
Ted is survived by his wife, Joan; Sons, Jeffrey Grant Schooley, Ottumwa, IA, Douglas  Todd (Carol) Schooley, Mesa, AZ and Michael Wood (Lisa) Schooley, Marion, IA.  Grandchildren;, Megan, Jacob, Ryan, Laura, Grant and Catherine Schooley, Courtney Webber and one Great Granddaughter, Lucy Webber.
 
Also surviving are his sisters, Judy (Gary) Steeples, Linda Jo Mackenzie and brother, Tony (Carol) Schooley. Of Ottumwa, IA
 
He was preceded in death by sisters, Jean, Janet, and Joyce and brothers Terry and Tom. and his parents.
 
You are invited to join a Celebration of Ted’s life, May 9, 2015 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, 1849 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, IL, from 2-4pm.
 
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be to Wounded Warrior Project.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
