Mavis C. Mickey

Mavis C. Mickey, age 76, of Gulfport, Illinois, died at 11:34 a.m. Friday May 22, 2015 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born January 6, 1939 in Pearl, Illinois, the daughter of Archie and Anna Reynolds Schlieper. On April 30, 1956, she married Donald D. Mickey in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2014.

Mavis lived in Gulfport for the past 39 years. She had worked as a bartender for many years, and for the past eighteen years was a teacher’s associate for the Burlington School District. She served on the Gulfport Village Board and was Treasurer for the Gulfport-Gladstone Fire Department. She was instrumental in forming the Gulfport Volunteer Ambulance Service and was the organizer of the annual Gulfport Fish Fry.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Mickey II of Burlington, IA, John Mickey of Gulfport, IL, three daughters, Gail (Lonny) Cale of Donnellson, IA, Judy (Robert) Avery of Stronghurst, IL, Kelly (Sam Linkin) Mickey of Gulfport, IL, eight grandchildren, Joshua, Laura, Doni, Renee, Bobby, Erin, Tory and Shelby, ten great grandchildren, Sydney, Owen, Adam, Mila, Gavin, Silas, Lexis, Reese, Oliver, and Chloe, and one sister, Marie Taylor of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one grandson, one brother and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday May 28, 2015 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Cremation rites will follow the visitation and a private burial will be in the Carman Cemetery, Carman, Illinois.
