Annabel I. Spurgeon

Annabel I. Spurgeon, 98, of Knoxville, Illinois, passed away peacefully in the presence of loving family on July 25, 2015 at her home in Knoxville, Il. 
She was born July 22, 1917 in Abingdon, Illinois, the daughter of George Lincoln and Florence A. (Davis) Moore.  Annabel married Max Raymond Spurgeon on June 14, 1937 in Oquawka, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1997. 
She was raised on the family farm in Abingdon, Illinois. She attended Cherry Grove grade school and graduated from Abingdon High School.  She attended teachers college at Western Illinois University and later attended Carl Sandburg College’s LPN school of nursing. 
Annabel worked at Cottage Hospital as an LPN and later worked for Dr. Caruso’s office as a medical secretary. 
Annabel was an active member of the Knoxville United Methodist Church where she was past president of the women’s society, youth leader, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and church office secretary.  She was a past president of the PTA at Knoxville High School.  She was also a member of the Timber Street Neighbors Club and past Chaplain, Vice Regent, and member of the Lucretia Leffingwell Daughters of the American Revolution. 
She is survived by two sons, James R. (Kathy) Spurgeon of Jupiter, Florida, John (Eloise) Spurgeon of East Galesburg, Illinois; three daughters, Dr. Irene (Peter) Caruso of Galesburg, Illinois,  Marian (Rev. J.L) Penfold of Greeley Colorado, Carol Scislowicz of Peoria, Illinois, and Margaret Mockler of Knoxville, Illinois; twenty-two grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, S. Max Spurgeon, two brothers, and
three sisters.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 A.M. Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Knoxville United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Illinois. Funeral service will be at 11 A.M. Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Knoxville United Methodist Church, Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. J.L. Penfold will be officiating. Private burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois.
