Beverly A. Oswald, age 80, formerly of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 8:35 pm on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center in Moline, Illinois. She was born May 23, 1935 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Lora (Black) Oswald. Beverly grew up in Monmouth, and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1953. She continued her education at Western Illinois University in Macomb where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. At that time, she was the only female student in many of her chemistry and math classes. Beverly began her teaching career in the East St. Louis-Cahokia School District. She then moved back to Monmouth and taught at Warren High School, retiring in 1971 due to her health. She was of the Baptist Faith. Beverly is survived by one sister, Barbara (Max) Biddle of St. Charles, Illinois; two nephews, Stephen (Karen) Biddle of South Elgin, Illinois, and Don (Lora) Biddle of Geneva, Illinois; one niece, Lora (Tony) Wey of Bloomington, Illinois; five great nephews and nieces, and four great-great nephews and nieces. Among her seven surviving cousins are Carol Carlberg of Roseville, John Carlberg of Macomb, and Bill (Mary) Oswald of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents, one great nephew, and four cousins.
Her family plans a one hour visitation from 10:00-11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, IL on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, to be immediately followed by a graveside service and interment in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to make a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, or their favorite charity, in Beverly's memory.
