Charles J. Johnson

Mr. Charles J. Johnson, 87, of Knoxville, Ill. formerly of Lombard, Ill. died 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Ill. 

He was born December 25, 1927 in Kilbourne, Ill. to Frank and Elsie Blanchard Johnson. He married Leila Jean Ruhrseitz June 19, 1954 in Lombard, Ill. She survives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Susie (and Bill) Bates of Gilson, Ill. and Linda Johnson (and Trena McDaniel) of Lake Zurich, Ill., his brother, Bernard (and Delores) Johnson of Camdenton, Mo., two grandchildren, Brian (and Sara) Bates and Jennifer (and Israel) Granillo and a great grandchild, Alex Granillo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Juanita Sheehan and Frieda Johnson.

Charlie was a bricklayer for D.H. Johnson in Villa Park, Ill. for 48 years and retired in 1996. He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn, Ill and Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Ill. He was a volunteer fire fighter in Lombard for over 25 years and retired as captain in 1975. Charlie was a devoted family man and enjoyed traveling and fishing. He was an avid golfer. 

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Michel Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Ill. with military rites. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the chapel.
