Helen E. Goble

Helen E. Goble, age 95 of rural Dallas City, Illinois passed away at 9:05 a.m. Sunday September 27, 2015 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst. She was born July 29, 1920 near Lomax, Illinois, the daughter of John and Mary "Molly" McIntire Dowell. On December 24, 1941, she married Ivan Goble in Canton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1978.

Helen was a graduate of Dallas City High School. She had worked as a secretary for Shaeffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, IA, Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, IA, Lomax Canning Factory in Lomax, IL, and Pioneer Lumber Company in Dallas City. Following the death of her husband, she managed the operation of the family farm. She was a member of the Lomax Christian Church, where she had served as choir member, trustee, and church treasurer for many years.

Helen enjoyed traveling, and made several trips to various European countries. She also spent many winters in Mesa, AZ. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and in her younger years, taking walks, ballroom and square dancing, knitting, crafting and sewing.

Survivors include eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five sisters, Faye Logan, Ferne Rubert, Ruby Gittings, Kathryn Noble, and Isabelle Dowell, two brothers, Donald and Dale Dowell, and six nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mrs. Goble will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday September 30, 2015 in the Lomax Christian Church, with Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. Burial will follow in the Carman Cemetery, Carman, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Lomax Christian Church.
