John. D. "J.D." Darnell

John D. "J.D." Darnell, age 66, of Gladstone, Illinois, passed away at 2:55 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born on March 15, 1949 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of George V. and Eva E. (Stormer) Darnell. J.D. was reared and educated in Monmouth. In August, 1969, J.D. married Shirley McCoy at Immaculate Conception Church and she preceded him in death on December 17, 2007. J.D. began work at J.I. Case where he enjoyed a 33 year career. He also worked at Kent Feeds, owned his own trucking company for a time, and drove trucks for various farmers in the area. J.D. loved "Gold Wing" motorcycles and belonged to the Gold Wing club locally. He was a life long member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. J.D. is survived by one daughter; Faunda (Rodney) Reed of Knoxville, IL, one son; Jason (Cory Dergance) Darnell of LaSalle, IL, three sisters; Sharon J. Jern of Oquawka, IL, Mary Sue Wells of Monmouth, IL, and Carol E. "Shorty" Buster of Ft. Meyers, FL, three brothers; Ronald E. (Linda) Darnell of Kirkwood, IL, Donald E. (Sharon Ann) Darnell of Kirkwood, IL, and Richard L. "Poodle" Darnell of Monmouth, IL, four grandchildren; Johnathan, Nathaniel, Mason, and Parker. A number of nieces and nephews are also surviving. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, nephew Mark Buster, and brother-in-law Pete Jern.

The Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 am on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. His family plans to receive friends after the Rosary until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
