William J. Leary

William J. Leary, age 82, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 3:10 am at the Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois on Thursday, September 17, 2015. Bill was born on January 23, 1933 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of James and Loretta (Lee) Leary. He was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School with the Class of 1951. Bill enlisted in the United States Army on January 29, 1952 and proudly served his Country until his discharge. On January 23, 1962, he married Bonnie E. Smith in Monmouth, Illinois and she preceded him in death on May 15, 2013. Bill began his employment with the BNSF Railroad. He the worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years, serving as a mail carrier. He retired from there in 1994. Bill was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. Bill was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. He is survived by on son; Dale J. Leary of Monmouth, IL, one daughter, Cindy (Jamie) Brown of Coldwater, OH, four granddaughters, three grandsons, and one sister, Marge Arnold of Marion, IL. Bill is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Bonnie, and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 am on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. The Rosary will be recited at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. His family will receive friends after the Rosary at the funeral home.
