Florence Irene Reuter, 97,
of Galesburg passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015, in Seminary
Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on February
19, 1918, to Samuel and Anna Fern Glasgow Johnson in Hanna City,
Illinois. She married William Howard Reuter of Amboy, Illinois, on
February 21, 1942, in Hanna City. He preceded her in death.
Irene is survived by her
two children, Sharon Reuter Zigler of Galesburg and Ted A. (Laurie)
Reuter of Waverly, Iowa, and four grandchildren: Andrew Zigler, Sarah
(Jonathan) Zigler Bugman, and Timothy and Travis Reuter. She was
preceded in death by a sister.
Irene attended Peoria High
School and graduated from Bradley University in 1939. She taught
school before marrying and later worked for the Knox College
Chemistry Department. She was a longtime member of the First
Presbyterian Church and was involved in many church activities,
including the Ladies Sewing Group and the Chancel Choir. She was
also a member of the Knox County Home Economists Club and enjoyed
playing bridge.
Funeral services are
scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Shawn Smith will
officiate. Visitation will be an hour before in the chapel. Burial
will be in North Limestone Presbyterian Cemetery in Hanna City. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian
