Mathilda Jane "Mac" Shimmin. age 98, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 1:45 pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Roseville Nursing and Rehab Center in Roseville. She was born on October 25, 1916 in Henderson County and is the daughter of Carl Oliver and Eliza Jane Bishop Lovdahl. She was raised in rural Henderson County where she attended Hornback rural school and graduated from Monmouth High School in the class of 1935. She was married to Lawrence L. Shimmin on February 14, 1940 in Monmouth, Illinois and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1976. "Mac" was a nanny for four families before she was married, and they was a farmers wife. She then was employed as a cook in the cafeteria at Warren School and later at the Cameron Grade School for the next twenty years. She was a member of the Fairview Center United Methodist Church where she has taught Sunday School, attended her circle, and was a member of the Together Sunday School Class. She also was active in and enjoyed being part of the Square Dancing group locally. She is survived by her daughter, Susie (Jerry) Clark of Keokuk, Iowa; and daughter-in-laws Velda Shimmin of Monmouth and Linda Shimmin of Little York,IL. There are nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-laws Mary Anne Lovdahl of Lynn Center, IL. and Anna Lovdahl of Monmouth, IL. also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, three brothers, and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans to receive friends on Sunday afternoon October 25, 2015 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Interment will follow the service at Warren County Memorial Park.
