Betty A. Hoots, age 76, formerly of Oquawka, passed away at 7:30 am on November 14, 2015 in Knoxville, IL She was born on February 21, 1939 in Lafayette, Illinois and is the daughter of Clyde and Oral M. Clark Gray. She was raised in Layette where she attended local schools and the Lafayette High School where she graduated with the class of 1957. She was married to Edward E. Hoots on November 22, 1958 in Aiken, South Carolina. He preceded her on February 19, 1996. Betty was co-owner of Big Ed's Value in Monmouth, Illinois. She then was employed at Western Stoneware for over 30 years as a supervisor. Lastly she drove for Renzenberger Rail Service during which time she was recognized Nationally for her safe driving. She and her husband also were members of Young's Lake near Kirkwood, IL. Betty is survived by her companion, George Jackson of Galesburg, Illinois, one daughter, Deanna Sanchez-Hoots (Ashley) of Galesburg, IL and one son, Donovan A. Hoots (Trisha) of Knoxville, Illinois. There are eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren surviving. Her parents, husband, one son Daniel, one great grandchild, Kylie and her brother, Robert Gray all preceded her in her death.
A funeral service will be on Thursday November 19, 2015 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. Her family plans visitation and will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:30 am prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. No memorial fund has been established.
