D. Maxine Martin, 95, of
Galesburg, died at 1:35 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015 in Rosewood Care
Center.
She was born August 7, 1920,
in Colchester, Illinois, the daughter of James Arthur and Margaret Elizabeth
(Finch) Greenup. She married Lester V. Martin
on August 18, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa.
He preceded her in death October 16, 2006.
She is survived by a son,
Gary L. Martin of Burlington, Iowa; a daughter, Joyce (and Steve) Quinn of
Morton, Illinois; a granddaughter, Lisa (and Randall) Schrock of Morton; and
three great grandchildren, Rachel, Olivia, and Joel Schrock, all of
Morton. In addition to her husband, she
was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Jeff Peterson on October
21, 1988.
She was a homemaker. Maxine also worked alongside her husband, Les
for many years at the Martin Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. She graduated
from Macomb High School in 1938. Maxine’s
memberships included the First United Methodist Church of Galesburg, the Order
of the Eastern Star, the Galesburg Women’s Club, and the Knox Farm Bureau. Les and Maxine wintered in Florida for over
30 years. She enjoyed dancing, golfing, bowling, crafts, and playing cards,
especially Bridge. Maxine and her husband never missed an opportunity to go to
a dance and Maxine continued to dance with her son, Gary, after Les passed.
Funeral services are
scheduled for 11 am Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg
Chapel. Pastor Mary Runge will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00
am Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will
be in the Knoxville Cemetery. Memorial
contributions in Maxine’s name may be made to First United Methodist Church or
