Richard H. Severs

Richard H. Severs, 88, of Boynton Beach, Fl. passed away at 7:41 PM Sunday November 1, 2015 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL.

He was born August 4, 1927 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Floyd and Edna Heed Severs. He married Azelia Cooksley on July 31, 1949. His wife of 66 years survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Rick (Robin) Severs of Macomb, IL; Brad (Cindy) Severs of Macomb, IL; Daughter-in-Law Karen Severs of Macomb, IL; 8 grandchildren, Ryan (Kelly), Matt, Loren (Melissa), Anne (Kenny), Blake, Chris, Grant, Nick; 3 great-grandchildren, Gwen, Nora and Charlie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Randall Severs and a brother, Robert Severs.

He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1946 to 1948

He owned a Western Auto Store in Holdridge, NE 1950 to 1958

He moved to Macomb in December of 1958 and founded Farm King April 2, 1959, which has grown to 6 locations, with a store and Corporate office and Distribution Center in Macomb. Stores are located in Macomb IL., Monmouth IL., Canton IL, Galesburg IL., Kewanee IL. & Burlington. IA. Farm King currently employee’s approximately 400 people.

Dick enjoyed spending time with his family especially at his home at Lake of the Ozarks.

He served on the board and was President of Mid States Distributing and served on the Board of Directors for Citizens National Bank.

He was an active member of the Macomb Country Club. He enjoyed watching sports, especially his sons and grandsons during their football careers and attended hundreds of football games.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday November 7, 2015 at the Wesley United Methodist Church, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Rev. Dr. Howard White will officiate. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery for family members. Military rites will be conducted. There will be a Celebration of Dick’s Life from noon-3:00 PM at the Macomb Country Club. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Macomb Bomber Booster Club or the Macomb Agriscience Association -(Agriscience Macomb High School). Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
