Riley M. Thomas

Riley M. Thomas, age 12, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 3:01 AM on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Children's Hospital in O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on August 17, 2004 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Justin P. and Michelle K. (Putnam) Thomas. Riley was to enter 7th grade at the Monmouth/Roseville Jr. High School in Roseville. Riley actively participated in sports over the past few years. She participated in basketball with the "Shooting Stars", where she excelled in all positions. Riley also was a first basemen and pitcher for the "Warren County Wrecker's" softball team. In her spare time, she enjoyed artwork and crafts. She was a compassionate and caring person who loved to help out smaller children when she could. Her infectious smile will be missed by her family and many friends. Riley is survived by her parents, Justin and Michelle Thomas, three brothers; Jake, Jackson, and Pearce at home, maternal grandparents; Tom Putnam of Monmouth, IL and Linda Putnam of Gladstone, IL, paternal grandparents; Roger (Syl) Thomas of East Galesburg, IL and Jo Pearce of Monmouth, IL, and Tom (Shari) Brinton of Iowa City, IA, maternal great-grandmother, Lois Snyder of Galesburg, paternal great-grandparents, Dick and Betty Pearce of Monmouth, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
 
A funeral service is planned for 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation is planned for 1:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 also at First Christian Church. Interment will follow the service at Monmouth Cemetery.
