James M. “Jim” Shafer,
49 of Galesburg died at 4:45 am Sunday, November 20, 2016 in Creston,
Iowa.
He was born June 10, 1967
in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Norman Paul and Elaine C. Langer
Shafer. He married Lisa A. Addis on September 25, 1999 in Galesburg.
Jim is survived by his
wife, Lisa; his daughter, Anna Grace at home; one brother, David
(Sandy) Shafer of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; three sisters, Diane
(Thomas Hasselbacher) Ohmann and Debbie (Rodger) Clay both of
Galesburg and Barb Shafer of San Antonio, Texas and several nieces
and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother,
Darold Shafer and a sister, Judy Ziokowski.
Jim worked as an engineer
for Burlington Northern Railroad for 13 years. He graduated from
Galesburg High School in 1985. He enjoyed snowmobiling in Minnesota
and Wisconsin and was a member of the Prairie Drifters Snowmobile
Club. Jim was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and
Trainmen Local # 644. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Jim
loved to stay busy and help people. He took pride in his lawn and had
immaculate cars. He loved his cats, Sophie and Ace and the late Burt.
Jim was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. His true love was spending
time with his family, especially his daughter, Anna. He was very
proud of all her involvements, whether it was playing the flute or
piano, her performing art productions, church activities or cross
country.
Funeral Services are
scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran
Church. Pastor Frank Langholf will officiate. Visitation will be from
4:00-7:00 pm Monday, November 28, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West
Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will follow services. Memorials may be
made to the Education Fund for his daughter, Anna. Online condolences
