Mary H. Fleming, age 92, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 4:39 AM on
Thursday, December 1, 2016 at her residence at Courtyard Estates of Monmouth.
Mary was born on September 17, 1924 in Aurora, Illinois, the daughter of Leo L.
and Edith (Burkhart) Huntoon. She was raised in Glen Ellyn where she graduated from Glenbard High
School in the class of the 1942. She then received her Bachelor of Science
degree from MacMurray College with the Class of 1946. Mary was married to David
D. Fleming on June 7, 1947 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois and he preceded her in death
on December 14, 2009. Mary spent her career in education, teaching physical
education at Monmouth College from 1946-1949 and 1959-1973. She was active
within her community, serving with numerous civic clubs. Her memberships
included AAHPER, Chapter E, PEO, Monmouth Country Club (President 1985-1986),
Maple Leaf Community Concert Series (President 1998-2000), local Girl Scout
Leader, Warren County Y.M.C.A. Board, United Way Board, Monmouth Area Chamber of
Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1982, and Altrusa Woman of the Year in 1981.
Mary is survived by three sons; Michael (Lynne) Fleming of Peoria, IL, David
(Marcia) Fleming of Scottsdale, AZ, and Joel (Violet) Fleming of Monmouth, IL.
Her grandchildren; Lauren, Eryn, Morgan, Kevin, Eric, Dawn, and Michael also
survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband David, and two
brothers.
Following her wishes, cremation is being accorded. A memorial service will be
planned for a future date. A memorial fund is being established for MacMurray
