Gerald D. “Gridy” Davis, age 92, of Morton, Illinois formerly of Knoxville, Illinois passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at 2:00 A.M. at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.
Gerald
was born on September 6, 1922 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Ralph
and Jessie Elliott Davis. After graduating from Knoxville High School he
married Eileen Dancy on May 10, 1941 in Cahokia, Missouri. He then
joined the United States Military as an MP for the 104 Infantry Division
also known as the Timberwolf Division. He proudly served during WWII
and the Korean Conflict. He loved spending time with his grandchildren
and growing flowers and making silk flower arrangements.
He
is survived by his two sons: Robert (Carol) Davis of Haines City,
Florida and Forry (Noreen) Davis of Morton, Illinois; three
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Eileen F. Davis, parents, and three brothers: Roland, Lowell, and Lloyd.
A
graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at
10:30 A.M. at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois. Memorial
donations may be left to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The
Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
