John
Roodhouse, Jr, 87, of Rogers, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 12,
2014 at the Marigold Nursing Home, Galesburg.
He was born
May 5, 1927, the son of John and Gladys Marie (Hart) Roodhouse, Sr.
in Roodhouse, Illinois. He was the great grandson of the founder of
Roodhouse, Illinois. He graduated from Roodhouse High School of
1947.
John was a
veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served in Guam during World War
II.
John married
Naomi Elene Edwards on July 30, 1948 in Roodhouse and she preceded
her in death on Nov. 26, 2009.
During his
adult he lived in Manchester, Illinois, Roodhouse, Monmouth, St.
Louis, MO and Rogers, Arkansas and spent winter months in Harlingen,
TX for over 20 years.. He formally worked as a farmer and retired
after 30 years as a plant manager from Getty Oil Company (formally
Skelgas). He loved to fish and listen to Cardinal Baseball games.
He was gifted at growing beautiful flowers and gardens and would
spend hours making woodwork crafts.
He was a
member of the American Legion.
Those left to cherish his memory are six children,
John Edward (Sally) Roodhouse of Little York, Susan James of
Galesburg, David Lee (Vickie) Roodhouse of Rhineland, MO, Peggy Ann
(Don) of Kansas, MO Mark (Linda) Bradford of Republic, MO and Lida
(Ed) Lewis of Dallas, TX, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren,
brother and sisters, James (Darlene) Roodhouse of Pekin, Nancy Briggs
of East Peoria, Mary Lou (Raymond) Coker of Bloomington and Dick
(Bonnie) Roodhouse of Roodhouse
He was
preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has
been accorded. Memorial services and burial will be 11:00 A.M.
Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in Fernwood Cemetery, Roodhouse, Illinois.
Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth assisted the family with local
