Mrs. Eva D. Cooke, 94, of
Galesburg died at 11:59 am Saturday, January 3, 2015 at her home.
She was born January 5, 1920
in Wyaconda, Missouri the daughter of Lester and Mildred Peterson Newberry. She
married Dales H. Cooke on September 24, 1937 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded
her in death on September 15, 2001.
Eva is survived by her son,
John (Gail) Cooke of Chatanooga, Tennessee; her two daughters, Carol Isacksen
of Galesburg and Diana (Jerry) Cooke-Gehrke of Cedar Falls, Iowa; her sister-in-law,
Bonnie Cooke McCann of Monmouth, Illnois; seven grandchildren and fourteen
great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her
brother, Lester Newberry, her sister, Eula Hanson, two granddaughters, Joni
Beatty and Jill Wright and one great granddaughter, Abigail Buckner.
Eva was a homemaker and had
worked for the former Galesburg Research Hospital for 10 years. She graduated
from Monmouth High School in 1937. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She served as a deaconess and Sunday School teacher for many years at the
church. Eva was a leader for the Girls Missionary Guild. She was a member and
past president of the Galesburg Christian Womens Club.
Graveside services are
scheduled for 11 am Friday, January 9, 2015 in Warren County Memorial Park
Cemetery, Monmouth, Illinois. Chaplain Dan Penn will officiate. There will be
no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family
with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission,
Hospice Compassus or to the Bethel Baptist Church. Online condolences may be
