Glenn Austin Reed, 85, of
Rio, died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016, in Seminary Manor in
Galesburg.
He was born May 22, 1930 in
Warren County, the son of Ralph and Lou (Baker) Reed. He married Barbara Doubet on December 21,
1974 in Maquon.
He is survived by his wife of
41 years, Barbara; a son, Michael (and Pepper) Reed in California; a daughter,
Vickie (and John) Bobbitt of Ringtown, Pennsylvania; a step daughter, Robbie
(and Don) Marvel of Peoria; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law,
Marian Reed of Avon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a
daughter, Constance McCollum; a brother, Eugene Reed; and two sisters, Martha
Christiansen and Helen Reed.
Glenn was a crane operator at
Admiral Corporation for over 39 years, retiring in May 1990. He graduated from Avon High School. He was a member of the Spoon River Antique
Club. He had a pilot’s license and owned
a plane at one time.
Glenn served in the United
States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954.
He was a Corporal serving in Korea.
He was a member of VFW Post 2257 in Galesburg and American Legion Post
727 in Oneida, where he served on the honor guard. In 2014, Glenn took the Honor Flight.
Visitation will be 12:30 to
1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg
Chapel. Funeral service will follow at
1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating.
Military rites will be offered at the close of the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Yates City
Cemetery. Memorial contributions in
