Mary L. Johnson

Mary L. Johnson, 86, of Galesburg, died at 1:42 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 in Seminary Manor, with her family by her side.

Mary was born May 20, 1929 in Monmouth, the daughter of Arthur Vaughn and Mary Ann Jacobs Burkett.  Mary married Harold W. Johnson on September 12, 1947 in Monmouth.  Mary is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harold of Galesburg; one daughter, Janet (Tim) Lytle of Galesburg; three sons, William “Bill” (Judy) Johnson of Broken Arrow, OK, Gary (Melinda Webber) Johnson of Galesburg, and Greg Johnson of LaCrosse, WI; one brother, Arthur V( Gloria) Burkett, Jr. of Florida; one sister, Lenna Platkowski of Detroit, MI; and a sister in law, Judy Kay Sullivan of Galesburg.  Mary is also survived by nine grandchildren, Anna Johnson, Doug (Spring) Johnson, Rick (Tera Donovan) Johnson, Ian (Crystal) Johnson, Lindsey (Willie Hurley) Johnson, Sally (Ryan) Harris, Stephanie (Jacob) Duquenne, Eric Lytle, and Rebecca Lytle; 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary will be long remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother to her family.  She loved to watch old movies, read books, and watch football.  Mary worked for a time in the lunchroom at Farnham School during the 1970’s.

Per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded and no services are planned.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
