Mildred Lucille Line Higgin

Mrs. Mildred L. Higgins, 95, of Alexis, Illinois died at 6:25 am Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Hawthorne Inn Galesburg.

She was born August 21, 1920 in Alexis the daughter of Arch and Nancy Mae Elms Line. She married John E. Higgins on March 10, 1940 in Norwood, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2002.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (and the late Bud) Eck of Galesburg; her son, Steve (Susan) Higgins of Moline; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, two brothers, two sister-in-law and a brother-in-law.

She attended Chapman Country School near Gerlaw and graduated from Alexis High school in 1938. She later received her certificate from Detection Training. She farmed with her husband until 1983. She worked for 15 years in Quality Control at Admiral Manufacturing. As a youth she joined the Alexis United Brethren Church that was founded by her forefathers. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, Friendship class, Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class until the closing of the church that is now the Alexis Museum.  She belonged to several social gatherings, Kill Kare, Bunco, Thimble Club and Get Together club. She held a membership at North Henderson Methodist Church and is currently a member of the Alexis Village Baptist Church. She volunteered as an Ag 4-H leader.


Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Monday, March 21, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Mary Runge will officiate. Visitation will be 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Alexis Ambulance Service or to the Alexis Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
