Martha J. Raley Kirk

Mrs. Martha J. Raley Kirk of Galesburg, Ill. died Wednesday March 16, 2016 at 2:35 p.m. at Kindred Hospital in Peoria, Ill.

She was born November 22, 1937 in Lebanon, Ky. the daughter of Joseph and Martha A. Luckett Raley. She married Rufus C. Kirk in Monmouth, Ill. on December 17, 1955. He preceded her in death July 18, 2008.

Martha is survived by two sons Michael C. Kirk, and Joseph G. Kirk both of Galesburg, Ill., one step daughter Dorothy L. and Lewis Woods of Galesburg, Ill., four brothers Thomas and Yvonne Raley, James and Patricia Raley, Joseph and Linda Raley, and Robert and Tracy Raley all of Galva, Ill., three sisters Mary Porter of Galva, Ill., Pamela and David Bolt of Mesa, Az., and Frances Griffin of Utah, four special kids Kelly Conley, Ben and Mathew Taylor and Brook Smith, special friend John Shaner, 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one step son Eddie D. Kirk one grandson, three great grandchildren, two sisters, and special friend Carol Shaner.

She attended school in Galva. She worked at the Food Counter at Walgreen’s in the 1950’s, and at Backer’s Cleaners for a few years. Most of her employment was in child care in her home for many families.

She was a member of East Galesburg Community Chapel where she was involved in many activities. She was a member of FCRV Camping Club.

Funeral services will be 12 noon Monday March 21, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Galesburg with Rev. Milton Marquith and Rev. Lewis Woods officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
