Peggy Ann Venard

Peggy Ann Venard, 84, of Monmouth, Illinois, died suddenly on Friday, March 25, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois of a stroke. Peggy was born March 15, 1932 in Gladstone, Illinois, the daughter of Gordon and Ida (Nelson) Colley. She was raised in Oquawka and attended Oquawka public schools and Gladstone-Oquawka High School. She worked at Formfit in Monmouth for five years before marrying Robert Venard on December 20, 1954. In later years she worked at Admiral, but was chiefly occupied as a homemaker. Peggy was a devoted animal lover. She was a faithful auction enthusiast for many years. She was an avid reader with a keen interest in history. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She is a member of the Heritage United Presbyterian Church of Monmouth.  Peggy was a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Warren County Doll Club. She was formerly a cub scout den mother. She was a devoted patron of charities to benefit the homeless. Peggy is survived by her three children, Robert Venard, Jr. of Oquawka, IL, Carolyn Cooper of Springfield, IL, Nancy Joann (Jeff) Davis of Chesapeake, VA, her cat, Missy, and her dog, PeeGee, five grandchildren; Jennifer (Matt) Howard, Christopher Gorski, Robert Alex Cooper, Megan Davis, and Emily (Danny) Sierra, four great-grandchildren; Dylan, Ava, Ashley, and Lily. She is also survived by three siblings; Ann (Floyd) Ward of East Moline, IL, Charles Colley of Oquawka, IL, and Clayton Dennis Colley of Washington, OK. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and four siblings; Ruby McGuire, Delores Brill, Jimmy Colley, and Joseph Colley.

A Gathering of Family and Friends is planned for Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. Cremation is being accorded. Friends may call at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth to sign the book of condolences until the time of the gathering.
